The criteria suggests that the corridor of most watercourses could justifiably be allocated as Local Green Space on the grounds of biodiversity (the freshwater environment is so small compared to land and sea), reducing flood risk (setting back and allowing access to maintain) and public access/ recreation.
The list of Local Green Space does include the banks of the New Blind Yeo but otherwise seems to miss several waterside sites. A key site where this is relevant is where there is a proposed housing allocation north west of Nailsea. This abuts the Parish Brook which lies within the Tickenham, Nailsea and Kenn Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). It is recommended that a 12 metre strip against the Brook (half of which would be within the SSSI) is designated as Local Green Space. |
