It is important to ensure that proposals for the development of sites which have been allocated in Local Plans, or other sites promoted speculatively as windfall development, are then designed and planned to take account of available capacity within existing water and sewerage infrastructure.

This should include co-operation between planners, developers and statutory water and sewerage undertakers to identify any shortfalls in that capacity, and the provision through detailed assessments of water supply and drainage strategies that support their proposals and confirm how they will integrate with existing water supply and sewerage infrastructure.
