Strategic Gap

What is the strategy behind having a Strategic Gap. There should be a good reason why there should be a gap at this point between Nailsea and Backwell. This is not explained.

I think there would definitely be a reason in having a strategic gap between Causeway View and Tickenham Church and the village of Tickenham and Stone Edge Batch. This area has some of the older buildings and charm of unspoilt rural Somerset. There is also a flood plain here, a very narrow road which crosses the flood plain and which is already used as a rat run in such a way that every year the edges of the road collapses and important drainage ditches which should not be interfered with. North West Nailsea is the oldest part of the town, the Conservation Area is not even marked on your map. This is an oversight.
