North Somerset Landscape Character Assessment SPD
This SPD is listed under "Other documents" in DM19 but it is not listed as an SPD in the Council's Local Development Framework web page http://www.n-somerset.gov.uk/Environment/Planning+policy/Local+Development+Framework. Has that document been formally adopted as an SPD in the LDF.

Place-Making Policies.
There appear a number of new site allocations made in the Place-Making Policies.
In particular Weston - South of Herluin Way 600 units and north west Nailsea 400 units. These sites will require capacity appraisal for foul and surfaace water disposal. We will work with developer to secure a sustainable drainage strategy during masterplanning for these sites.

- The key design locations referred to in the SPD where Design Codes are required will be refined as the sub area masterplans develop.

In respect of proposed policy DM31, Core Strategy Policy CS12 deals
with achieving high quality design and place-making and makes reference to
designing out crime and the principles of Secured by Design. Proposed
policy DM31expands upon CS12 and sets out what will be taken into
consideration in determining if design is acceptable, however it is noted that
at present there is no specific reference to safety in relation to design.

Policy DM31: High Quality Design and Place-Making
The Trust would recommend an additional bullet point linking this policy with biodiversity, GI and trees policies as these aspects are essential in creating a sense of place and contribute to local character.

One way to create local communities is to build cul - sacs. These create mini self helping communities in their own right. Also we should site houses for energy saving ie with south facing roofs even if this creates an unusual aspect for each house
