Policy DM23: Bus Interchange and Parking & Ride Facilities at Existing Railway Station

Network Rail supports these proposals. We are aware of the proposals at Worle but not those for
Nailsea and Backwell or Weston. We would be happy to meet with the Council to discuss these.

Draft Policy DM23, whilst acknowledging the importance that the existing railway stations can make in terms of a sustainable transport strategy, fails to be positive enough to provide for a positive future for transport that will have a lasting impact on sustainable development in the District. Policy CS 10 of the adopted Core Strategy does not specifically identify Worle rail station as an area for which development proposals are likely to come forward during the Plan period, nor does it form part of the recently approved Weston Package (although the Package does include proposals for a major new car park and bus interchange on the south side of the railway). As such the policy remains aspirational with little, or no, likelihood of coming forward during the present plan period.
