North Somerset Landscape Character Assessment SPD
This SPD is listed under "Other documents" in DM19 but it is not listed as an SPD in the Council's Local Development Framework web page http://www.n-somerset.gov.uk/Environment/Planning+policy/Local+Development+Framework. Has that document been formally adopted as an SPD in the LDF.

1. Balance
KSPC finds this document very unbalanced. Some policies are long and detailed, others are inexplicably brief and vague. Compare for instance DM4 Conservation Areas and DM 5 Listed Buildings (a few lines each) with the much more detailed DM10 Trees, which contains references to "the relative positions of trees and windows for light" and "specific issues relating to tree species eg aphid honey dew, fruit drop,

Policy DM10: Trees
In order to ensure consistency with Policy DM9, the Trust recommends adding a bullet point at the end of this policy to read: 'planting of native species of local origin wherever possible'.

Policy DM10 Trees
1. Whilst we are pleased to see the first bullet point, requiring 'where practical, the introduction of appropriate tree planting as an integral part of the design and landscaping of new developments', we would like to see this bullet point expanded to encompass a requirement for larger scale woodland creation in respect of more significant developments as part of developer obligations (section 106 or CIL) via biodiversity offsetting.
