The key criteria include visual impact with particular reference to the views within and from the Mendips which is just about everywhere. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I find wind farms both visually appealing and also mentally comforting in that they show that we can get energy from an inexhaustible source. I would hate to have to tell my grand-children that we allowed the earth to overheat because we did not like the look of windfarms.

There are a lot of 'shoulds' in the requirements for developers. There needs to be concrete legal requirements in place for a subsequent clean up after use and after accidents. We must ensure that such costs are not born by the tax payer. Should we ever allow fracking (heaven forbid) the total environmental costs must be born by the developers

One way to create local communities is to build cul - sacs. These create mini self helping communities in their own right. Also we should site houses for energy saving ie with south facing roofs even if this creates an unusual aspect for each house

I think that we are a bit obsessed with building houses 'in keeping'. This anchors us into the past. Modern materials and structures can be stunning. We should try to embrace the 21st century.
