Development at existing larger settlements is more sustainable and rapidly deliverable than Garden Villages. Proposed new road to access from the A370 to Station Road will open land for development but without a radically improved public rapid transportation congestion will be increased. Live-Work units that provide opportunities for small scale business start-up without creating outward commuting should be utilised. Need local employment, infrastructure investment first and connectivity.

Location is on the wrong side of Nailsea. Better to concentrate development at Nailsea on the N/NE side, where it would be closer to and easier to integrate with the existing town. Extensive development to the south-west would concentrate development traffic on the A370. Even with the transport mitigation package, the JSP Transport Topic Paper predicts traffic increases probably beyond existing road capacity. Development to N/NE would have less impact by channelling traffic onto B3030.

No special circumstances to release Green Belt land. Roads and rail are already congested.

Object to building of houses at the Valley, Nailsea. Vitally important to protect green space, wildlife, ecosystems and human population. Land is vulnerable to flooding. River supports animal, bird, insect, fish and plant species including protected and rare species. Site is surrounded by SSSIs - land provides a green corridor. Nailsea has more than enough industrial areas, but inadequate infrastructure. Pollution levels would rise. More traffic. Green space important for mental health.

Oppose Nailsea Town Council proposal for GB release

The combined impact on the local area of the Nailsea development alongside the proposed Backwell development would place an impossible strain on the area’s transportation links and public transport networks. It could be argued that Nailsea as a town is better equipped with services and amenities to support large scale additions than Backwell, but I would suggest that numerous smaller developments would be integrated far better than one mammoth development of over 2.5k homes.
