We understand that the Core Strategy on housing numbers for North Somerset is yet to be adopted with a shortfall of some 1715 houses to be identified.

We hope that the small village of Backwell is not one expected to accommodate further housing over and above the sites already identified, where the schools, road and medical are already at capacity. This was supported by Backwell’s Neighbourhood Plan which clearly stated that public opinion was against any major housing development.

Backwell already has a site in Moor Lane that is allocated for development but there are no other sites for additional development that are not either in the Green Belt or outside the Settlement Boundary.

In summary, there is no more room for additional residential development over and above the sites already identified in the adopted Backwell Neighbourhood Plan and we do hope that this is supported by North Somerset Council in considering the housing numbers for the county.
