The local authority proposes no changes to the Green Belt policy, however in the absence of a proper assessment of the success or otherwise of existing spatial objectives, eg the jobs-led-housing strategy at WsM, or the alternative spatial options to deliver the higher housing figures, together with an updated SEA, it is not possible to determine whether this policy is sound.

Therefore this is an objection to proposed policy CS 6.

Until such time as a full assessment has been undertaken as set out above, we remain of the view that potential amendments to the Green Belt to the South West of Bristol might provide the most appropriate opportunity to help to deliver the higher housing numbers, in the most sustainable location.

The strategic location to the South West of Bristol is the subject of major public infrastructure works at the present time, including comprehensive public transport links, which make this location very sustainable. Due to the advanced state of those infrastructure works, a strategic location to the South West of Bristol can deliver a significant number of dwellings within the plan period, sufficient to make up any shortfall in housing delivery.
