This policy states ‘Each village will be anchored by a local centre which will provide necessary retail, health, children’s services and educational and community facilities to serve local needs’.  We appreciate that policy CS25 says that schools will be focal points, but we feel it is essential that primary schools particularly are located within the heart of new villages to enable children from these new villages to attend, and indeed walk to, a local school.  If these schools are located in areas that will not be able to support further future development then the future-proofing is not needed, but if they are located in areas that could support further development, those future proofing features of appropriate foundations and space to expand is essential. If these villages have an existing school, those schools should benefit from appropriate extensions or other works to enable them to grow in size.
