Otters are widespread throughout North Somerset.  The rhynes of the moors and levels are an important otter habitat and this should be taken into account when planning future development.  To avoid unlawful disturbance planning officers should ensure that ecologists employed in the area are specifically trained in otter ecology and have experience of otter surveying.
