Proposed level of development in Nailsea of 885 new houses cannot be considered to be sustainable in the current climate.

The site allocated to the West of Engine Lane - hosts a variety of clubs and events which would be lost or greatly diminished if the land was allocated for development.

The number of houses proposed for Nailsea will have a major impact on local amenities and services.

Particularly concerned that a commitment of 865 new homes has been proposed with the majority being provided by new sites to the West of the town. East side of town would be more suitable for housing. It is closer to local amenities with less emphasis on transport into town, Kinshill school has the capacity to expand and development is immediately adjacent to the main road network and the area proposed for employment expansion.

Nailsea and some service villages are under undue pressure to increase their housing numbers. Long Ashton and Failand seem to be unaffected by these proposals even though they have better access to the main employment hub, community and leisure facilities in Bristol. The new South Bristol link road will also provide potential for new housing, employment and community facilities with direct access to Bristol. This would ease the burden elsewhere in North Somerset.

To allow the Allocation at West Nailsea will mean a significant review of the Settlement Boundary. There will also be a detrimental impact on the rural setting of the town.
