Site Allocations Plan - Further Site Assessments


The Council’s Site Allocations Plan identifies the locations required to deliver the Core Strategy housing requirement to 2026. The Plan is currently being examined.

Following hearings held in May 2017, the Inspector wrote to the Council on 26 June. This identified the need for the Council to test the provision of additional housing sites to help provide flexibility and certainty that the Core Strategy housing requirement could be met and to support the demonstration of a five year housing supply.

The Council has identified those sites which are compatible with the extant Core Strategy spatial strategy (sites within or adjacent to Weston, the towns and service villages or on previously developed land elsewhere), have been considered through the plan making process and which are in the development pipeline (as these are more likely to be deliverable and could potentially contribute to five year supply).

Each of these sites has been assessed in terms of its suitability, availability, achievability and sustainability to contribute to additional housing supply in accordance with the Inspector’s guidance. This evidence has been published in advance of the formal consideration of the Council’s response to the Inspector’s letter at Executive Committee on 5 September 2017.

Comments were invited from interested parties on the information published at this stage of the process:

  • Schedule of sites to be assessed.
  • Site deliverability information (provided by landowners/developers).
  • Site assessments.

The closing date for comments was 21 August 2017. 

Any comments received will be made available on the website and taken into account when considering the Council’s response to the inspector.

The Inspector will then consider the Council’s response and if necessary, hold additional hearings. All proposed modifications to the plan, including the inclusion of any additional housing sites needed to make the plan sound, will be subject to formal consultation prior to receipt of the Inspector’s Report.
