I recognise the need to ensure that the design faults, such as seen in Portishead Marina are not repeated. However, I disagree with the pressure to increase parking spaces allocated for individual private dwellings. Instead, residential road designs should include more flexible use parking bays, which do not obstruct the pavement or the carriageways. Road width should be sufficient for emergency vehicles and buses where required, but should not be wide and straight enough for speeding vehicles. Residential speed limits should be 20mph everywhere (link to CS10).
