Core Strategy - Consultation Draft Chapter 4: Area Policies CS32: Service Villages CS32: Service Villages

In light of the representations made under policies CS13, CS14 and CS20, the policy should be amended to permit an increased level of both housing and employment development than the very limited extent currently envisaged under the proposed policy. A more positive approach to facilitating such development should be incorporated in the wording. Land adjoining Locking would be suitable for development should it be required to meet the strategic development needs of the district.

Removal of the Sandford Settlement Boundary will make the village unsustainable.

Bristol Water objects to Policy CS32 and Policy CS33 as currently worded. New housing and employment development should not be required to be located only within settlements and adjacent to settlement boundaries.

The Parish Council considers that Sandford should be included as a Service Village as it is the main location in the parish for non retail employment. Any changes to the settlement boundaries should only be made after full consultation with the Parish Council.

Locking has been identified as a service village and the Consulation Draft states that "New employment development must be located within or adjacent to the settlement boundaries and be of an appropriate scale and character and contribute towards improved self-containment." We have concerns regarding the proposed proximity of new employment to existing homes and the impact of this on a well established and thriving village community - both sides of the A371.

Support the inclusion of Long Ashton, Congresbury, Easton in Gordano, Hutton and Yatton with the list of service villages. These settlement are all large enough or located close enough to sources of employment in order to maintain or improve self-containment.
