I propose that NSC should include that field known as Belgian Avenue, (Grid 42805735) lying between Fountain Lane and Oakridge Lane in Sidcot, Winscombe as a Local Green Space in the next version of the Sites and Policies plan.

The field contains an historic avenue of beech trees, planted to commemorate the support of Belgian refugees and convalescing soldiers given by the people of Sidcot during the First World War.

The tree avenue provides a visually important gateway from the main settlement of Winscombe to the Mendip Hills and was selected as such before the AONB was designated: the public footpath through it is used regularly by local and visiting long-distance walkers.  The field as also used on a daily basis for pedestrian access between Winscombe and Sidcot

I believe that designation would receive support from a majority of the local community in Sidcot and Oakridge and that it would satisfy the requirements laid out in the Local Green Space Evidence Paper
