Farleigh Fields: (page 67 Schedule 4)

BRA supports the designation of the two fields forming a “T” shape as shown on the plan.

2 main reasons are given on the draft plan for such designation. BRA considers these are inadequate and should also include “recreational value.”

The BNP was based on a number of extensive surveys and residents’ questionnaires, providing the background for a series of “Evidence Bases.” One such – draft Plan Evidence Base J.20 - demonstrated that “the primary reasons for the designation of Farleigh Fields are their recreational and landscape value.” One survey showed that residents had used the land for a significant number of different sports and recreational activities for more than 20 years. The two designated fields are inevitably the most used and popular as they have footpaths running through them. The recreational value is very important to the community in its own right.

The draft BNP proposed 6 of the Farleigh Fields as LGS. This Plan (using the evidence prepared in the BRA report referred to above) explained the importance of these fields to the local community, due to their beauty, historic significance, recreational value, tranquillity and richness of wildlife. ( Evidence Bases J, K, and L).

This background more than justifies the inclusion of, at least, the fields designated in this draft Sites and Policies Plan, and BRA proposes the justification reasons should be extended to include “recreational”.
