The North Somerset HELAA does not identify the full impact on biodiversity of the West of Engine Lane site. It notes that the site is within 5km of the SAC for bats, but does not recognise that development on the site   would have a detrimental effect on the local greater horseshoe bats, which use the site for foraging and commuting (see the Greater Horseshoe bat Project 1998-2003 by English Nature: http://publications.naturalengland.org.uk/publication/142004?category=31008).
