North Somerset Council has indicated that 38 million tons of crushed rock will be required to fulfil their proposed needs to complete the housing and infrastructure proposed in the Local Plan for the period 2023 /38. In order to meet these quantities, they have indicated that Quarries that are in or neighbouring Backwell (Stancombe and Freemans quarries) would need to take up further areas of land to excavate. The close proximity of the areas required to achieve this high tonnage will seriously affect our residents’ quality of life and further congest the roads in an unreasonable way.
