Agree with the Plan

DP17: Travel Plans 4.6. Policy DP17 sets out the need for proposals that generate a significant amount of movement to be supported by Travel Plans. 4.7. This policy is supported.

The Council's commitment towards encouraging sustainable travel is commendable and car ownership and we have no objection to the aims or objectives of this policy. We feel that the threshold for Travel Plans requires further clarification as 'Major residential, commercial, service and educational developments' implies they will be sought from all residential developments of 10 units or over. Whilst supporting the thrust of this policy, the use of the words "substantial amount ofmovements" is very subjective and open to abuse or wide interpretation. Can a tighter form of wording be employed (eg x number of traffic movements per household or per development site per day)?

Travel Plans have been required throughout the country for some years and their production has been a healthy income source for consultants. Unfortunately very few of them are properly used subsequently. How will North Somerset change this?
