The Society would strongly oppose the proposed residential site adjacent to the railway of the Bleadon Hill Road by Devils Bridge. This will seriously damage the green area so beneficial to both Uphill, Bleadon hall and the entrance into the town. It will create a danger in additional traffic in an already dangerous area. See area marked A on attached map. We question why the Local Green Spaces identified in and around Uphill to not extend to cover The Plantation and Golf course abutting Uphill

I write on behalf of Bath & North East Somerset Council (B&NES) in respect of consultation on the North Somerset Preferred Options Consultation - March 2022. B&NES welcomes the opportunity to be engaged in and comment on the development of your Local Plan. The officer comments below are set out in the context of discussing potential cross boundary strategic matters as part of the Duty to Co-operate B&NES is broadly supportive of the approach North Somerset is taking in respect of its Local Plan

The Duty to Co-operate Statement of Common Ground identifies several matters which have potential strategic cross-boundary implications some of which have been identified above. Why isn't there a strategic policy on Biodiversity / Nature Recovery? NSC has declared an ecological emergency - the Local Plan therefore requires the sort of response required in an emergency, where nature recovery and the nature recovery network (West of England Nature Partnership) should be just as important as, for example, minerals. Natural capital is more vital for society and our local economy than mineral extraction for example!

Strategic Policies (page 8) states: Local plans must contain strategic policies which set out the overall strategy for the pattern, scale and design quality of places and make sufficient provision for the growth and supporting infrastructure required whilst conserving and enhancing the natural, built and historic environment and addressing climate change. Why are these in a random order? This makes it hard to comment. I support all the Climate change proposals Affordable housing is of no relevance to local people in the villages as it is being allocated to those in need from WSM. A proportion should be allocated so that young people and those wishing to downsize who currently have to move away from their established support network can access them. SP 3 & SP9 - lot of new housing with no new employment envisaged leading to multiple extra car journeys given the rail and bus netwrok is inadequate for current needs SP11 & SP7 - building on Green Belt in Backwell appears to be contradictory to the strategic policy especially given the potential for flooding in the area SP6 - complete lack of evidence to show that Backwell's proximity to Nailsea and the train station is sufficient to justify such a hugely significant uplift in planned housing
